The Original Howard Keith Cloud Sofa

We are delighted to announce that the cinnamon red cloud suite (as seen in the images below) has now been sold, but we are pleased to offer for sale two other hand-crafted Howard Keith Cloud Sofas, alongside one armchair and one pouf. Designed by John Home for HK Designs (London), from 1970 to 1979.

We have one full set composed of the stunning large chaise longue settee, large armchair and pouf; finished in the original powder blue velvet. The upholstery of the velvet blue sofa, armchair and pouf is very worn and torn in a few places. The HK Cloud suite is currently in its original 1970s fabric and we have obtained the provenance from its original owner, who owned the sofa from the 70s until we recently purchased it. The powder blue cloud suite is now awaiting restoration and can be lovingly restored in any fabric, leather or faux suede of your choice.

We have also acquired another Howard Keith original grey velvet sofa that is in need of restoration. This sofa does not come as a part of a full suite set.

These Cloud sofas have the unique and bold cloud design, with sumptuous seating that looks great from every angle. A truly scarce and collectable sofa suite that is very comfortable, giving one the blissful feeling of floating on a cloud! These suites are so versatile that you could even purchase a unique Cloud sofa corner unit to create the ultimate suite (see photo of an original powder blue corner suite here).

BRIEF HISTORY HK COMPANY

Founded in the early 1930s and building a great reputation through the 1940s and 50s, Howard Keith London had become a leader of Great British furniture. By the 1970s, Howard Keith had branched out into making cabinet quality coffee tables, desks and boardroom tables. Howard Keith carried on producing high quality items throughout the 1960s, 70s and 80s, with well designed furniture that appealed to many furniture lovers and discerning home makers.

Howard Keith had gained a reputation not only because their designs stood out from most other large manufacturers of the time, but because they were elegant, untraditional and appealing to a market of buyers who were looking for something unique. Howard Keith could never be accused of playing it safe when designing furniture!

Due to the ever-growing demand of cutting edge quality designs, many institutions like The Bank of England, Harrods and Heals of London were selectively purchasing suites for their stores. The Howard Keith name had become prestigious and was well known amongst high-end interior designers. Even The British National Library, the Ocean Liner QE II and the Tate have been proud owners of Howard Keith’s designs.
